The
Active Living Partnership is a broad collaboration of several health
and recreational agencies working with ACCT to enable and encourage
regular physical activity in our everyday lives. We recognize
first the crucial relationship among physical activity, health, and
community design, and we seek to identify and implement the policy and
physical changes that could help make Active Living in Charlottesville

ACCT
spearheaded a campaign to implement streetcar service along
West Main Street. Streetcars would offer rapid transit along
dedicated lanes, spur economic growth, encourage
pedestrian-friendly environments, and relieve traffic
congestion more than other public transit options. ACCT led
the project through its preliminary planning stages; the project is
now led by our partners, Friends of West Main Street.

ACCT's newest
program is an innovative
effort to reach out directly to residents of Charlottesville and to
encourage them to make more neighborhood trips by alternative modes,
especially by bicycle. It is a new approach to find potential
cyclists in the community and help them realize the freedom and other
benefits of traveling by bike.
