The Alliance for Community Choice in Transportation is working with Jared Ulmer, a nationally-certified instructor from the League of American Bicyclists to offer this course. Through the three-session course, participants will gain the skills and confidence they need to be a road-savvy Charlottesville cyclist.

Course Schedule:
May 27, 6:00–8:00pm,
May 31, 9:00am–1:00pm, and
June 3, 6:00–8:00pm
Location: Buford Middle School
This course is great for new roadway cyclists as well as more experienced cyclists.
Course topics include:
- How to perfectly fit your bike to you
- Basic bike mechanics: Fix-a-flat and other common repairs
- VA Bike laws
- Handling and Signalling
- Where to ride in relation to cars
- Crash Avoidance and Common Mistakes
- Shifting Tips
- Group Riding Skills
The course will focus on riding skills that are specific to the Charlottesville area. Course time will be split between classroom instruction, parking lot skills practice, and on-road riding.
Participants must bring their own bikes and helmets.*
The registration for this course is $80, which includes:
- all instruction time and materials,
- a "Bike Charlottesville" t-shirt,
- a retroreflective safety emblem for your jacket or back-pack, and
- two high-visibility bicycle pants straps.
ACCT members recieve a registration discount of $15, bringing the total cost of the course down to $65 for members!
