What bike lanes,
trails, or other
improvements would make it safer and easier for your to
ride in the Charlottesville Area? The
Alliance for Community Choice in Transportation is commited to working
for improved bicycle networks throughout the Charlottesville area.
Most importantly, we believe that decisions about bicycle
lanes and other improvements should be made by people who ride bicycles!
So, we are collecting public feedback and creating a prioritized
list of bicycle projects, like improved or new bicycle lanes, bike
routes, multi-use trails, or bike racks. Then, the Bike
Charlottesville! committee, which is made up
of area bicyclists and ACCT volunteers, will make an action plan
for each prioritized project.
VOTE
NOW for your prioirty bicycle improvements in the Charlottesville
area! This survey should take less than 10 minutes and will help
us set our agenda for the coming year. The survey
will be available until December 15th, so vote today!
Here's
our timeline:
October
4th:
Over 130 area bicyclists attended the 2006 Bike Summit
and brainstormed projects that would make it safer and easier
to ride. The project ranged from short-term (like adding Share
the Road signs to Cherry Avenue) to long-term (like a separated
multi-use path along Barracks and Old Garth Road). Everyone voted
for their top 3 projects. The report from this event is coming
soon- stay tuned or e-mail
us to join the Bike Charlottesville! list serve.
November
15th: ACCT launched the second round of public
involvement, to further prioritize the top 20 projects identified
at the Bike Summit. Using an online
survey, we are again asking people to vote on the projects
that they think are most important for our area. The survey will
allow us to narrow the "big list" down to 5 priority
projects.
December:
The Bike Charlottesville! commitee will
create a plan of action for each project, which will include:
- Research-to
find out what plans already exist for the project and to identify
potential barriers; and
- Action-
letters to elected leaders, organized rides in the project-area,
outreach to neighbors and business that may be effected, media
attention, etc.
The
Bike Charlottesville campaign relies on the involvement of as many
citizens as possible. Join us! For
more information or to get involved, contact John Potter by phone
