The Alliance for Community Choice in Transportation
is coordinating a series of community events, May 12 -18th, to celebrate
Bike Week. Check out the schedule of events below and contact ACCT

Monday, May 12th
"Bicycle Friendly Community"
Awards Ceremony:
Noon at City Hall
Charlottesville was just designated a "Bicycle Friendly Community"
at the Bronze level by the League of American Bicyclists. To kick
off our 2nd Annual Bike Week, Charlottesville Mayor, Dave Norris,
former Mayor and current Council member, David Brown, and ACCT Executive
Director, Zachary Shahan, will receive the award from Bill Nesper,
the Director of the Bicycle Friendly Community program, in front
of City Hall at noon. For more information on the award, click

Free Tune-Up Clinic at ACCT's Bike Commuter Tent:
4:30-6:30 pm
Haven’t ridden in a while? Bring your bike by the Bicycle
Pit Stop where volunteers will work with you to fix ‘er up!

Shop:
7:00-7:45pm
A clinic to address common commuter repairs such as changing a flat,
remounting a chain, basic derailluer and a Q & A session.

Tuesday, May 13th

7:30-9:30 am and 4:30-6:30 pm in front of Main Street Market on
West Main St. Look for the checkered flag bike station.
Ride from Downtown to Fashion Square
Mall:
Join experienced cyclist Roger Friend, who will share his secret
route to go north without riding on 29. This will be a casual ride,
medium skill level. Meet at the Transit Center on Water Street at
6:15 pm.
Wednesday, May 14th

7:30-9:30 am and 4:30-6:30 pm on the corner of Preston Rd and Ridge
St/McIntire Rd, in front of the county office building. Look for
the checkered flag bike station.
Ride from Alderman
Library at UVA to Barracks Rd Shopping Center:
Great back way with few hills, off road paths, and scenic streets.

Friday, May 16th

Bike to Work Day Competition:
In coordination with National Bike to Work Day, we are coordinating
a friendly competition between major local employers to see who
can get the highest percentage of their employees to bike to work.
Participating employers are likely to be the City government, the
County government, SNL, and Lexis Nexis.
Bike-in Movie
& Cookout:
7:00 pm at Community
Bikes*
Shishkabob (and other Shenanigans--raffle, games and more!)
8:00 pm -- intro flick, "Stella," and then feature presentation,
"Goonies."

1 block off of W. Main Street by
the Hampton Inn pkg. lot and the RR tracks.
Saturday, May 17th
Discover Transportation Freedom Ride
and Social:
Ride from the center of The Meadows neighborhood to Whole Foods
Market and Shoppers World Court at 10:00 am and a 'transportation
social' at that location directly afterwards and you could win $1700!

Bikes Volunteer Training
12:00-2:00 pm
Many new volunteers needed to staff open access shop hours.
Come and learn about working with area youth and working on bicycles
at this fun and interactive training.
Folks with various skills needed -- will train you in mechanics!

Bike Riding Clinic at Cville
Bike & Tri
1:00 pm
A clinic about riding around town with your kids. This will focus
on safe riding techniques to get the whole family around town by
bike, and the unique challenges of Charlottesville's hills and streets
for the under 13 crowd.
